Primates
in general are classified into many different and unique subspecies. To best start,
it is advisable to take a look at their evolutionary classification. For this
information, I will be speaking mainly of the Family Hominidae, including it's 4 genera
and 5 species the Chimpanzee (Bonobo), Orangutan, Gorilla and Human.
(Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus,
Species)
To best clearly
explain this tree, we should establish some form of
understanding. Before we can classify Humans and Apes in
the same family, it might be best to see how science draws us
together. The first question is, if we are all
primates...what exactly makes us so? All primates share
similarities.
- Binocular vision.
- Grasping hands, having a thumb.
- Stand and walk fully erect for at
least brief periods of time
- Relatively flat face.
- Ears placed on either side of the
head, not on top.
